Delivering assessments is a must for most organizations. Whether it’s to meet health and safety requirements, identify skills gaps, or deliver certifications, the need for assessments is undeniable, but the ‘how’ of assessments tends to be much harder.
Some organizations use a Learning Management System (LMS) to do this, and it’s no secret that it’s an excellent tool for anyone managing L&D within their company. But is it enough to manage assessments?
It depends. Organizations tend to choose to deliver assessments from their LMS alone if several of the following factors apply:
- The tests needed are low-stakes – like simple quizzes
- Only simple question types are used or needed (often multiple choice)
- There’s little concern around test cheating
- The industry in question is lightly regulated
- They don’t need tests to be delivered in multiple languages
- The LMS in question has a higher level of assessment functionality than is typical
On the other hand, as soon as assessments become more high-stakes and integral for making people or business decisions, organizations tend to look to add specific Assessment Management Software (AMS) into the mix.
So, which is the right choice for you? Take a look at the pros and cons of both in Questionmark’s deep-dive article.
