Creating a winning workplace wellness plan

Of all the recent shifts in workplace culture, the need for every employer to consider a wellness plan for their teams has been one of the most important.

A new survey from the leading global wellness provider, Les Mills, has revealed that globally only 44% of employers currently include wellness offerings as part of their employment package, with that number dropping to 15% for UK respondents.

With increasing blurred lines between work and home in a new post-pandemic world, helping employees maintain their physical and mental health is key to a strong culture, a resilient workforce and increased productivity.

The survey, which spoke to 12,000 people globally, revealed that people who have access to fitness via their employer are 43% more likely to workout than those who don’t.

Employees who don’t regularly exercise are also 50% more likely to have high presenteeism (being physically present at work but not actually working), than employees who do.

The survey also revealed people’s reasons to workout with the top five answers as:

  • To get healthy (48% of all respondents)
  • To get fitter (43% of all respondents)
  • To feel better / look good (43% of all respondents)
  • To reduce their stress levels (35% of all respondents)
  • To improve their mental health (35% of respondents)

“The pandemic has given employers an insight into the life struggles of their employees and has shifted the focus from largely organisational issues to individual experiences. Employers need to view well-being not just as an employee benefit but as an opportunity to support employees in all aspects of both their personal and professional lives,” says Richard Sale,

“As we start to return to the workplace there is a massive opportunity here to help employees keep their well-being in check and to start with, reducing stress levels will be massively important. Ultimately, exercise can help employees stay motivated, clear-headed and be more productive,” says Sale. “At Les Mills, our offerings truly bring f to life and are scientifically-designed to help keep workforces healthy.”

Les Mills is supporting employees to get their fitness back on track. Its range of corporate wellbeing services include a mix of digital and physical fitness solutions that enable employers to offer world class  wellness  solutions to their employees both in the office, via virtual, live classes or at home through Les Mills On Demand (LMOD).

Most recently Les Mills has launched the LES MILLS Content Web Player. Delivered via a web browser, the LES MILLS Content Web Player can be accessed on laptops, tablets and mobile phones. Eminently portable around the workplace, it can accessed in a range of workplace active spaces such as meeting rooms, breakout spaces, communal areas or a studio space.
