Concerning levels of engagement reported amongst UK employees

Many employers provide valuable benefits, yet too often employees aren’t aware of them and aren’t fully utilising them. According to the latest research into employee health and wellbeing from benefits experts, Mercer Marsh Benefits (MMB), just under half (48%) of UK employees find the communications they receive about their benefits unengaging. Additionally, 35% don’t know where to find information about their benefits.

Here’s how you can help boost employee engagement with your health and wellbeing benefits:

1. Moments that matter frameworks

A ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to communicating benefits just doesn’t cut it anymore. Communications should be targeted and reflect the diverse experiences employees face such as childcare, caregiving or gender-specific health needs such as menopause.

For example, MMB’s research also revealed 41% of parents are worried about buying a home1. A targeted message that acknowledges this and suggests next steps to help, shows employees that you care about their journey and are providing relevant support.

2. Digital benefits and employee engagement software

The digital benefits experience is a vital driver of employee engagement. For a long time, many employers have focused on increasing choice when it comes to employee benefits. However, how the benefits are accessed is just as important.

Benefits software solutions such as Darwin, the trusted benefits platform, or mobile applications like Benefits You App, play a crucial role in enhancing engagement by offering intuitive access to benefits.

3. Multi-channel communication

As employees engage with content across various channels in their personal lives, diversifying communication channels can ensure messages resonate more effectively and foster deeper engagement.

Consider a blend of short videos or animations, printed materials, email campaigns, webinars, and on-site support from providers.
