‘Affordability’ reported as a central concern for UK employees…

The latest research into employee health and wellbeing from benefits experts, Mercer Marsh Benefits (MMB), reveals ‘affordability’ as a central concern for today’s workforce, following a survey of over 1,000 UK respondents.

The findings reveal:

  • 53% of women and 41% of men worry about their financial readiness to retire.
  • 48% of caregivers and 41% of parents worry about meeting their monthly bills.
  • 47% of caregivers and 43% of working parents worry about affording quality care.

Here’s some cost-effective steps employers could take to help employees feel more financially secure:

  1. Combine tax-efficient savings options, like salary sacrifice (also known as salary exchange), with additional contributions and the ability to allocate bonuses to pensions.
  2. Support members in your pension scheme by engaging with retirement services that offer a range of options such as income drawdown and digital retirement advice.
  3. Financial education training programmes for employees on topics such as budgeting, saving, managing debt, and planning for retirement.
