Green Commute Initiative; a pioneering cycle to work scheme

Green Commute Initiative is an award-winning and industry-leading cycle-to-work scheme provider. GCI was the first scheme provider to not have a £1,000 limit; in fact, GCI’s model enabled the Government to update its scheme’s guidance notes so that everyone can benefit.

With GCI, there are no end-of-scheme fees which ensures employees make the maximum possible savings (32-47%) on any bike and do not get stung with unexpected 7% charges.  We think it’s the fairest scheme around.

There are no admin or usage costs for employers who actually save 13.8% on reduced NIC.  Employers can choose to use Instant GCI, a pay-as-you-go scheme which requires no registration or commitment, or Corporate GCI which is perfect for large organisations who require a portal to manage employee applications.  A Framework agreement is available for public authorities.

GCI is passionate about E-bikes as they are truly the future of commuter travel.  Hills and distances are no problem on an E-bike, helping to eliminate some of the objections to cycling.   No £1,000 spending cap means the world of E-bikes, cargo bikes and disability cycles is now open to everyone.  Brands exclusive to GCI’s scheme include Canyon, Cowboy and YT Industries.  We have more than 1,300 registered bike shops from across the UK.

Established in 2016 as a not-for-profit social enterprise, GCI’s vision is to get commuters out of cars and onto any kind of bike, with the dual purpose of improving both the individual’s health and wellbeing, as well as reducing the environmental impact of pollution and congestion from cars. We have a health crisis looming fast; poor physical health as a result of inactivity and breathing in toxic air will kill more people than Covid-19, every year.  Forward-thinking employers need to act now to help employees choose active travel for their commute to work.
